Re-Imagining the futures of rave culture

Partnering with the not-for-profit arts company Futur Shock I will be hosting a series of 3 discussion events within a wider multi-disciplinary arts programme centred around the theme of 'Re-Worlding'.

The discussions will interrogate London's rave culture's external oppressors under the specialised headings:

Re-imagining the Futures of Rave Culture: Pandemic

Re-imagining the Futures of Rave Culture: Policy + Planning

Re-imagining the Futures of Rave Culture: People (class + diversity)

By bringing the processes of space making in the city to the nightclub and music industry, the project aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue and collaboration between the disciplines that will in turn act to spark movement within the music industry and instigate deeper involvement in the city’s planning and development.

Issues with policy, licensing, space and development are familiar amongst the industry, but there is little understanding of what can be done. Between the pandemic, radical proposals for planning reform and the new Draft London Plan 2019, the UK and London specifically, is experiencing rapid change. The project aims to provide a platform for club culture and the art world to imagine alternate futures through a series of critical discussions and immersive audio/visual and digital art (with Futur Shock), and to be an incubator for activism and unification between disciplines. Discussions will take on a less traditional format, with panellists encouraged to combine their diverse set of expertise in proposing possible interventions in the city.
